SummaryProfessor Rupert Lewis will discuss events that took place in 2013 in Jamaica and the Caribbean. Professor Lewis has written extensively on the work of Marcus Garvey, with special emphasis on his activities in Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean. His most recent publication focuses on the life and political thought of Walter Rodney. His other publication is Garvey: His Work and Impact. (Edited with Pat Bryan), Africa World Press, 1994. Richmond interviews Halifax, Nova Scotia based poet laureate, teacher, and spoken word activist El Jones, who is currently the artistic director of Word Iz Bond Spoken Word Artist Collective. Musical tribute to Tennessee-born jazz saxophonist, oboist, flutist and composer Yusef Lateef, who joined the ancestors on December 23rd, 2013.
