SummaryWe begin Women's History Month with a tribute to Nina Simone, who was a soldier in the war on poverty, a soldier for women, and a fighter for World African Liberation. Jalali interviews Valerie Scoon, director of the short documentary "Grenada: Colonialism and Conflict", featured at the 2013 Pan African Film and Arts Festival (PAFF). Author, educator and historian Dr. Gerald Horne will discuss the 21st Pan African Film Festival and the 85th Academy Awards. He maintains that while the film Argo may have been the big winner at the Oscars, internationally it has no legs. We salute bassist, pianist, bandleader and composer, Charles Mingus. Jalali continues to explore contributions to music from Los Angeles area musicians.
