Publishers of the longest-running black power newspaper, The Burning Spear, the Party has provided theoretical and practical leadership to African and other struggling peoples around the world, helping to shape the current rise of resistance movements internationally and within the U.S.

With its ideological roots in the Garvey Movement, the Party grew out of the Black Power Movement of the 1960s. Because it has always been rooted in the African working class and guided by the visionary leadership of Chairman Omali Yeshitela, the Party was able to survive U.S. government attacks and provide continuity of struggle and organization into the current final offensive against U.S. imperialism.
