Comrade Abu Leila is a founding member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine, a secular socialist organization, created in 1969, which in 2006 was one of a group of independent parties that won approximately 10% of the vote in elections for the nominally independent Palestinian state's governing body.
