The U.S. government is on a nation wide campaign to slash the already low funding for public schools. These cuts are accompanied by an increasing in the spending on prisons and police. Cities like Philadelphia spend $1.1 billion on police, courts and prisons. Those schools that are left open are being taken over by private company owned charter schools.
