To view live go to inpdum.org. In Chicago, Black Boys make up 25% of students, while 57% are expelled. 6 and 7 year old children were handcuffed for talking in class. The terms ADHD, ODD, and APSD are common in most households. Parents are encouraged by psychiatrists and child study team members to give their children powerful psychotropic medication in order for them to behave in class. The truth is schools are preparing our children for prison. Due to harsh discipline practices at school and the disconnect between African children and the irrelevant educational curriculum they are exposed to, Black students are dropping out of high school at alarming rates. This increased dropout rate leads to the likelihood that these children will become involved in the criminal justice system.
The Newark Local Organizing Committee of InPDUM will be interviewing two people who work within the system and discuss the ways they are trying to break the cycle of incarceration of our youth.
